  • ABS issues

    Ok, so now the latest retarded issue with my abs is that some times the Anti-Lock light comes on when the car starts and other times it does not... when its not on, randomly when i apply the brakes my blue "Low Traction" light comes on (car is a '95 Monte Z34) and the abs engages for no reason, on flat dry ground at low speeds.

    I have a feeling its a bad wheel bearing/speed sensor.... any way to pull the ABS codes?

    If you have ~$250 you don't know what to do with, Actron makes an ABS scanner that is sold at most parts stores. But before you go through all that mess, I would pull your sensors (if they are removable) and clean them off. I've always been told they are picky and can gripe if they get too dirty. If they are integral into the wheel bearings (not sure on that year car) then jack each corner up and check them by wiggling the tire like you would to check tie rod ends, ect. to check for play. If you haven't found anything then, scanning would be the next step I would think.

      i MAY have made a functional ADS for tunerpro to check the ABS setup on a few vehicles, i'll go read my source files to see if the 95 Z is listed along side the 95LS...

      EDIT: 94 3/4 A-cars, 2/3/4 W-cars, 1/2/3 U-vans and 95 1W-cars

      since you swapped to OBD2, i'm not sure if it would work...

        You have a working ADS for 92 that reads ABS codes? You wouldn't want to send a copy of that my way would you?

              clean your terminals, including your alternate source and check any fuses under the hood for oxidation to be cleaned... It worked for me

                Have you checked your brake fluid levels? Sounds like your low on fluid and on cold start it will show you're low but after warm or hot start it wont show because you've driven it for a while and pressure has built up. Might wanna give that shot first. Might even try bleeding your brakes also. Might have some built up air in there.

                      i made a ADS definition for tunerpro to read the ABS data....

                      so far, i have ones that work for all 92 U-vans and W-cars and then another for 94 3/4 A-cars, 2/3/4 W-cars, 1/2/3 U-vans and 95 1W-cars.

                      1=Chevrolet, 2=Pontiac, 3=Oldsmobile, 4=Buick

                      there's a possibility of them working for other applications as well...

                      and since yours is a 95, but now OBD2, i'm not sure if it would read it correctly...

                      make sense?

                        yeah, but whats tunerpro?

                        i at one point used a GM scantool using the OBDII connector but selected 1995 Monte and it accessed the codes. if that helps..

                            its a scanning/tuning program that fits a LOT of applications, but most notably, GM OBD1.

                              Couldn't hurt to remove the fronts and clean them and jack up the rear and check for loose bearings.
