All Cam flats are up. I have not pulled any cam gear. The 2 cam gears by firewall the mark on the gear are lined up. The 2 gears in front are not. I have rotated the crank where I can see the timing mark on the dampener. What is a rear bank timing? I see no arrow on anything to line the mark on dampener with. I am not sure what to do at this point. I have read and looked at the timing belt walkthru with pics. I generally understand it all except this and one other thing. letting oil drain out of tensioner, when does oil go back in? 3.4 Chevy Lumina

As I have not done this before I can only say what I have in theory. It is my understanding that you line the crank up at TDC and have the front cams with the flats facing up (using the hold down tool). After the front cams have then been tightened down rotate the crank 360 degrees so that the flats on the front cam are now facing down. Install the hold down tool on the back cams (flats facing up) and tighten them down. I know there is more involved but I hope this gives you the right direction.Last edited by 91LQ1Lumina; 08-08-2009, 09:31 AM.sigpic

There is a mark on the damper (there is a photo in the timing walk though on this site) for finding TDC. The cam gears should be loose until you have the engine at TDC and the cams locked in the flat up position. Then you lock the gears in place. So as far as I know there are no timing marks on the cam gears as they can be installed in any position. Also I was wrong in my first post, you need to set the front cams at TDC lock them down then rotate the crank 360 degrees and lock down the back cams (the flats on the front cam should now be facing down as the cams turn at half the speed of the crank)
Hope this helpsLast edited by 91LQ1Lumina; 08-06-2009, 12:17 PM.sigpic
