  • Engine swap headaches

just replaced my 3.4 in 94 cutlass supreme. It started right up when i finished the swap, but after an hours worth of run time, it will not stay running. It idles rough(500rpm-1500rpm up and down). Right now i cant get it to start. Any ideas? The knock sensor under front manifold is not plugged in, possibility????

even though you SHOULD have the knock sensor plugged in since if its unplugged it will usually run like absolute shit with no advance, it should at least start/run.
1995 Monte Carlo LS 3100, 4T60E...for now, future plans include driving it until the wheels fall off!

I am a newb to this motor, but pretty interested in figuring this thing out, just to clarify things lol. The knock sensor in the back of the motor is plugged in, but i cant even find the plug end that goes to the sensor in the front, not even sure if it was plugged in on the old motor. Should it have 1 or 2 knock sensors for the 1994?

It seems i stepped into a pretty big pile with this car. Car is a 94, motor that came out was from a 96, new crate motor was, from the description, 91-95 had to mill the hole for the cam sensor, although it had the lobed cam already in the carrier ,had to get the right exhaust manifolds, one thing after another.

          That does not sound right.

I am fairly sure that all motors 94 and up should have a cam sensor. So if this motor is a 96 it should therefore have a cam sensor, right? Also I think 96 was the year they changed to the new heads, so it should also have oval shaped exhaust ports, as apposed to the D shaped ports on the older motors. I think you may need to find the casting numbers on your engine and ask the board what year your engine really is.

Oops just re-read your post. I would seem that the new engine you have is for a 91-93. Which is why it does not have a cam sensor already in the block. Sorry I can't be of more help.
