sounds like a park/neutral switch issue for the rolling and will only start in reverse...

    as for the obd changes:

if its a 3100, and you want to go to obd1, i wrote a guide here:

in any other situation i can't help with that...

      Huh????????????????????????????????????.... ?????????

if your gunna ask a question please take a breath, think it threw and read it over a couple times before posting.. and one "?" will suffice...

If you would like some help or suggestions please elaborate on what the issue is... Why are you asking about OBDI/II swaps when the issue is completely unrelated to doing a swap? OBDI/II will not tell you what the issue is just like your current version of OBDI (1.5 or whatever they call it these days...) only difference really is between OBDI and OBD "1.5" is MAP based vs MAF based... it wouldnt cause you not to crank the engine over. I also suspected NSS as 1st thing that came to mind. did you have the NSS out or the trans out for any reason recently?

I would think the rolling and only starts in reverse is a shift cable not adjusted correctly since it sounds like it's not going into park. The cable has an adjustment on top of the transmission where it is held down. Try having someone move the shift selector to park while you watch to see which direction the cable moves for park. Then unhook the cable from the transmission, put the transmission in park by hand and see if it will turn over then. After that, adjust the cable so that it moves to park when you select park inside the car.

i thought shift cable at first too, but only turning over in reverse made me think P/N switch...

But if the cable being out of adjustment enough to throw the indicator off inside by one gear never letting park engage, that would explain why it starts in reverse. Indicator says reverse when it's actually in neutral because the PN switch cannot be out of adjustment being bolted directly to the top of the tranny. alt, does the car move in the correct direction when you put it in reverse, drive, ect after started?

I agree with the idea that the pnp switch is fouled. Have seen it a few times, most recently on a 94 GP. The weather seal on the housing of the pnp had failed, and let road spray wash all the dielectric grease out. Eventually the arm inside the switch that carries the contacts seized up, and the collar that slips over the shifter shaft stripped out. To check this, have an assistant observe the reverse lites while you cycle the shifter through all gear positions. If the lites do not illuminate in the proper position, simply pop the arm from the shifter shaft and remove the pnp. Try to rotate the collar, it should be very smooth. If not then check out the collar for signs of being stripped. As for the no spark problem, need more info. This assumes that the shift mechanism has not been recently disturbed, as a mis adjusted cable will also cause these problems. Does the car roll even in park? If so then check cable adjustment.
