  • This Timing belt is messing me up! Please Help!

    Hello,

Well, This is round two of timing belt install and I am long again. Here is where we stand. Engine crank pulley was lined up with mark. The front bank cam flats were set facing up, and the rears where set facing down. I turned the motor over a few times to check the flats with my tool. When the crank pulley is on its mark either the front cam flats are PERFECTLY lined up, or the rear FLATS are perfectly lined up, but one of the two are Perfectly lined up and they are both opposite one another.

I put the car completely back together.... hook up the spark plug wires (maybe I have to wrong firing order or something) Car spudders and back fires, but no start. I am back at work tomorrow, and I need this car to get there. Please take a moment and post if you have any ideas!!

    Thanks,

    Dan

    OK NEVER MIND FALSE ALARM!

    Sorry guys....

I do have some helpful information though

The Firing order in the Hayes Manual is completely wrong. I referred to all data and finally got the right firing order. That book is going into the filing cabinet!!

Reading those cheap ass books is like reading an intentional joke book for a fool.
      Example:
"How to change oil on a XXXX XXXXX XXXXXXXXX:
      Loosen Pan Bolt.
Drain Motor Oil into a Container: The container must have a tightly closing cap, and also be clean and waterproof. You do not want anything getting into the oil or any of the oil getting out.
Remove and Drain Your Oil Filter: Your engine oil filter is also recyclable. It will contain oil when it is removed, so care must be taken in draining this oil into the same container as you are putting the rest of the oil.
Label the Container: If you have to store the container for an extended period of time, or others have access to where the oil is stored, then you will want the container labeled.
Store in a Safe Place: Until you have the opportunity to take the used motor oil to a recycling center, make sure you have a secure place away from children and animals to store the engine oil and the engine oil filter.
Transport to a Recycling Center: When you have the opportunity, take the used motor oil and the oil filter to a recycling center. There are numerous options in your area, regardless of where you live, to recycle your used engine oil and filter.

*Gallon milk jugs are commonly used to hold used motor oil. It will take more than one gallon jug for a change of oil.
      #
*You can purchase containers at auto parts stores or stores such as Wal-Mart that are specifically designed to capture your motor oil and provide secure storage till the time to take it to a recycling center.
      #
*Businesses that change motor oil will generally accept your motor oil to add to their own to recycle.
      #
*Many local recycling centers also accept used motor oil.
      #
*Most gas stations that sell motor oil will accept your used motor oil for recycling purposes.
      #
*Car dealerships will generally accept your used engine oil to be recycled.
      #
*Businesses such as Advance Auto and others will recycle the engine oil you give them.
      #
*Do not allow water to get into the recycled motor oil. Just like oil contaminates water, water contaminates oil and it cannot be recycled once contaminated.
      #
*Make sure your used motor oil container has not previously contained bleach, anti-freeze, other household chemicals or other oil based products."

Now how much of that was useful to you for changing your oil? 0%

That is what you paid for pretty much with those store bought books.

Firing order and coil pack cylinder order are two different things. I bet the Haynes manual is correct and you had the two confused.

        The firing order is 123456.
If I recall correctly, the ignition module cylinder order is 142536.

There is a picture diagram in the book... a picture of the engine with numbers on the spark plugs, corresponding to a picture of the coil pack with numbers on the plugs. The book was totally off! It doesn't matter. I gave the book away. Garbage man came and picked it up this morning

http://autorepair.about.com/library/...bl-fo-7704.htm, it might not be the same year but the firing order should be the same.
