  • maybe you can help?

problem is my oil pressure according to the gauge is through the roof.
    it started yesterday.
at 3000 rpm's my gauge is maxed out.
i just did a oil change two weeks ago,i changed the sending unit 6 months ago.
i dont have time to check it right now,but was wondering if maybe this has happend before to any othe z34's or w body 3.4's
i bought a new oil filter, ill do that first,im going to put a manual pressure gauge on there, but if thats not the problem, what could it be?
if it is the pressure relief valve,is there any way to get it unstuck with out dropping the pan?or maybe there is something else wrong.
plz let me know what you think.

    thanx guys

If it is the gauge in the dash it is likely that the sending unit has gone bad and you don't actually have any mechanical issue.

Mine read high and would spike to the needle max as the rpm changed - I replaced the sending unit and it behaves normally now.

If it's a Fram filter, get it off of there asap! I used to run Fram because grampa did, but Frams have flow problems. I found this out when Ben convinced me to try a Purolator. My gauge used to peg all the time and I was almost to the point of changing the sending unit to fix it. Once that Purolator was on there, the gauge worked like normal. Reason being, the sending unit is in between the filter and the pump. When the filter restricts flow (like a Fram) it builds up a lot of pressure between the filter and the pump. Once that restriction was removed (by going Purolator) the pressure didn't build up between the sending unit and pump, letting the sending unit display the correct pressure on the gauge.

here where i am located, those purolator filters are junk.(WIX dominates)
there the cheapest filter to buy,ive used fram for the last two and a half years and never had a problem once, until now.
so does any one know if k&n make an oil filter for this car(motor)
i was thinking (you cant beat the flow of a K&N filter)right?
if not, than im just going to start buying ac delco.why not, everything else i buy for the car is ac delco,

thanx guys,i totally agree its more than likley the oil filter, ill find out on monday for sure
          thanx

Check this out... The guy cuts them apart and really looks them over... The AC Delco happens to be about the best, that he's tested so far.. It's also the cheapest at $3.99!!!
I think I saw a question if K&N made a filter for our cars... I'm pretty sure (99.99999%) they do,,, I'm also SURE they are expensive!!!! I think I saw Advance getting about $12-$14... If I remember K&Ns are on the list to be tested......
              Hope this helps,,,

Well take it or leave it, but I'm just sharing my first hand experience to help someone out here. Besides, the only place I would use a K&N would be for the air filter. Something you change as often as an oil filter seems like a waste, and if the media filters too small of particles, it's going to clog faster, and be a restriction as well.
