  • Timing belt went, should I use the old cams?

Just got done tearing down the motor in my 95 GTP and found out a valve got sent through the piston. I plan on replacing the motor with my donor motor which ran out of a 93 Z34. However, I plan on only using the block and the heads off of the Z34 but would any damage have been caused to the cams? I got the set off of the Z34, but I really don't want use them if I don't have to. Also I read that the 95 cams were better in some way, can anyone verify?

They aren't any better, they just have notches cut in them for the cam sensor, which the 93 cams don't have. If you use the same electronics over, you have to use newer than '93 cams, or the cam sensor won't read and it will cause problems. If you are going to resue those cams, you should at the very least have them gone over by an engine shop to make sure they are not bent and still within tolerances.
I may own a GTO now, but I'm still a 60V6er at heart.

its only the front intake cam that has that sensor nub on it.
