  • Parts are getting scarcer

I had to get a replacemtn coolant hose for my oil cooler and a new dipstick tube. They were discontinued from GM, but VPI had them. They have 9 diptsicks left for the DOHC, and 348 of the coolant hose that goes from the water pump junction block to the oil cooler. I know they also only have about 50 of the seals for the outputs on the 284 left.
I may own a GTO now, but I'm still a 60V6er at heart.

VPI is basically Vintage Parts International (I think) . We would go through them back in the day to order "hard to find" items.

When GM doesn't want to keep stock of a part anymore because the car it goes on is too old, they sell the stock to VPI. VPI is linked into the GM dealer network so the dealers can see if they still have parts, but you can also buy direct form VPI if you have the GM part number.

These interchange with the 282, and RockAuto has plenty. The support bearing seals from rodneydickman.com for the 282 also work. I've only installed one on the driver's side in the tranny case so far, haven't tried the jackshaft on the pass side yet. I've got a spare jackshaft so if it breaks I won't be totally screwed. I still have the right-turn power-on shudders, is there any other way to fix that problem?

Mine's never shuddered while being on the power in corners. Have you checked your axles and hubs? Maybe tie-rod end?
