  • Question : alternator help

    does anyone have pictures or diagrams of how to drop the subframe to replace the alternator before i just go and take random things apart.

      You don't need to drop the sub frame. You can change the alt. in a couple of hours with the right tools. You'll need a T-60 torx to remove the caliper, a long dull flat screwdriver to pop the axle out, and I think a 13mm ratcheting wrench to get the top alternator bolt. Just follow the insructions that were in the first thread above. It's bang on what you need to do. Dropping the sub frame is the GM way and also why a shop charges 6 hrs to do it. use medium locktight when putting it all back together.

        Truth. I've done many, many of these alternators, and you do -not- need to drop the subframe.
