  • Question : 3.4 DOHC idles like poopoo

Hi gang...I have a 1994 Olds CS with the DOHC and it idles like CRAP. It has a miss that's very random and will sputter but not stall. So far, I've put on new:

    EGR valve
    EGR gaskets
    IAC motor
    LIM gaskets
    plenum gaskets
    coils
    ICM
    ECM
    CKS (both of them)
    plugs
    wires
cleaned the MAF (with MAF cleaner)
    ohmed the injectors (all 12.7-12.9)
done a comp. test (150-160 in all 6)
    checked for SES codes (none)
sprayed carb cleaner EVERYWHERE (no change)
Checked the timing (stock, belt is good, sprockets are where they should be)

Above 1000 RPMs it will go like a scalded dog...Below 1000 RPMs, it's
putt-putt-putt---putt-----putt--putt-putt and it has a very slight hesitation off the line. What makes me think it's a vacuum leak is that it gets worse with the A/C or heat on. But I can't for the life of me find it...HELP!

Here's something you might try if it indeed a vacuum leak.....no guarantee it will *find* the possible leak...but... remove your intake snorkel and completely close off the throttle body mouth. Seal it up...and see if you can start the engine....if it does start, you definitely have a vacuum leak. Now you just have to locate it. If it does not, you still may have one but a rather small leak.

      I shall try that...

I did get rid of the hesitation...I forgot to put the PCV hose back in the intake tube...
