  • Vacuum Reservoir??

Just wondering if any of you guys knows what this part is.. My best guess is it has something to do with emissions control. It's connected to a single vacuum line inside the drivers side fender so I assume it's some kind of vacuum reservoir. The old one I had was put in temporarily and fell off on a test drive two years ago, while doing my partial restore. I've had the line blocked off with a golf tee since. Any info would be great I like to know what all parts on my car are for and this one eludes me. Will be putting the one pictured back on just wondering what it might do.

    thanks!!

Yes, it is a vacuum reservoir, also called a vacuum ball. It stores extra vacuum so things that need vacuum (like cruise and your HVAC controls) can still function when your vacuum level drops, like when you floor the engine to pass that granny in front of you.

Good to know. I was thinking it would have a more technical name... But I guess it is what it is. Any idea of where the vacuum line ties in to the main system on a 3.4??

I don't remember off the top of my head as I haven't had to trace them that far. Hopefully one of the others that has messed with it recently can fill in the gap for you.

It's all good had a schematic emailed to me!! Makes sense now; my cruise control was sluggish and didn't seem to keep up. Looks like when I plug this thing on all will be good.

Yup it will. My car had cruise added on by the previous owner, and I never payed much attention to it, but it was connected directly to the manifold, and wouldn't pull up big hills. Then I connected it to the factory vacuum ball lines from a T that normally goes to the factory cruise and it's 100% perfect.

Got this in with no problem. Certainly seems to have more consistent vacuum cruise seems better. Of course I had to scrub it down, primer it and paint it. Looks awesome for a part I'll only see...
