  • 92 @ 93 Lumina stalling

I have 2 luminas, both stalling, one son had his in the shop for 2 weeks and they couldnt figure it out. The other son had his in a different shop for 2 days and they said nothing was wrong with it. I have changed the tps and the plenum gaskets(had a vacuum leak and thought maybe that was the cause) and changed the fuel filters. I'm thinking of changing the fuel pumps, but I would like some more advice if anyone else has had this problem. I saw some threads here about the injectors and never thought of that. The car would start and he could drive about 5 miles and then it would die. It would start back up, and then die whenever he gave it gas too fast. Now it will start but it will die almost right away when put in gear and given gas. This is driving me crazy. I would like any advice please. Thanks!

I went the same thing with my 92 z34. I started out by getting the upper intake cleaned. still stalled. changed all the the sensors "tps, iac, knock, map, and o2", still stalled. was told it was the injectors. got them serviced. still stalled. in fact, started tossing black smoke once in a while when throttling. was told it was a fuel issue when black smoke is involved. so, changed the fuel filter and pump. still did it. oh, was also told it was the tcc sticking. so i flushed the tranny after using seafoam transtune. still did it. finally got someone to scan it, turned out to be the computer itself "it was telling the injectors to stay open too long". its been running great ever since. now you may not want to take the route i did, i sank a ton of money doing this. start out by getting it deep scanned. this means take it to a dealer. you'll run into some bumps and snags along the way "meaning they'll say they wont scan a car so old" but keep digging, you'll find someone to do it and that alone will save you a ton of money.
new computer cost me $225 - a far cry from everything else i did that cost me over a grand...
good luck and let us know how you make out...

      stalling lumina

I had another shop do a diagnostic on my 92 lumina and it showed tyhe ECM as bad. I bought a used one for $50 and installed it. The stalling has stopped and it was probably the easiest part I have replaced on the car. Thanks for all the suggestions and ideas.
