  • 3.4 DOHC Kent Moore Kit

I am getting ready to replace my timing belt and pulleys and do not plan to ever pull one of these lovely engine apart ever again

So, I have the Kent Moore kit I purchased for this job. (Although I only needed the Cam hold down tool...I could only find the full kit)

Would there be any interest if I tried to sell it? Should I try Ebay?
    This thing wasn't cheap!

I am such a sucker for punishment. Sitting in the driveway I have my Cutlass in the middle of pulling apart it's four cam engine to voluntarily change the rough looking timing belt...then, sitting beside my little ragtop is my 97 Cadillac with the 4 cam Northstar that had a miss...got to the point of pulling the front valve cover only to find a self detonated lifter...so am replacing a cam in that one.

Makes the 3.4 seem like a piece of cake to work on now that I am going back and forth between the two Except the Northstar does not need anything special to time the cams and has timing chains!

There are some extra items with it. The larger one is for pulling vacuum on the intake. There are 2 small pieces missing, I forgot to look them up, I'll post what they are later.

I was wondering if you or anyone else could assist me by taking measurements of the cam holding tool so that i could build one, well 2 of them!

          Thanks

There used to be info on the site as to how to make your own, but I have no idea if it is still around after the site migrated to a new server/stuff was moved around. Anyways, just go to your local hardware supply (the one off hand by me is called Fastenall) and pick up some 1/2 x 1/2 key stock around 8" long I think it was. Drill a hole dead center and I don't recall what bolt size to use, but that's all you need to set it stock if you don't have access to the special toolkit.

And there you have it! Thanks Brad

Chavo, just don't use the cam hold downs ONLY to hold the cam. You also need to fabricate a cam gear holder if you don't buy a tool kit to keep the gears from spinning while you honk on them to loosen (94-97)/remove the bolt (91-93). Otherwise you will strip the cam hold down bolt holes when the threads give out from all of the force you exert on the cam gear bolt.

I was thinking $200 for the kit. Just has the 2 small pieces missing.
