So my Ball joint busted and broke my axle then the wheel crunched the fender.... Luckily i was going like 2mph so nothing major like a accident or anything happened.... With any luck i will have a new ball joint and axle back in it tomorrow.. It happened at my work so i should be able to recruit one of my techs to help me get-er done. Just bitching a little bit.

LMAO it was karma it think, i was just thinking to myself this morning I gotta check thoes daymn ball joints soon. Kinda funny how that worked out. On the bright side i have a demo for a couple days, i guess its kind of convenient i work at a car dealership. Then the cop told me "you should have got a Nissan" (i work for nissan/subaru) and i responded with "well sometimes something has to give on a high HP piece of machinery"... (thinking to myself or on a old flaming turd)

Tell me about the ball joint issues. I was backing out of a friends driveway the other day, and one of mine started to come out. I was able to catch it before it came all the way out, but still, it was ALMOST a really bad thing. I posted a pic of it in the suspension section.

got my ball joint replaced and axel and back on the road. Now im going to tear the other ball joint and both tie rod ends out and replace them all then get an alignment. Then i need some serious paint work and a new fender... maybe i will finaly 2 tone it (foose-ify it a little). I must say it does feel a bit tighter now the front end isn't so loose.

Do W bodies go through ball joints regularly? My car has 200k+ miles and the side I have not replaced is perfect condition. The one I replaced was cause I tore the boot...

I always grease everything. My tie-rods are original, boots are busted but I keep fresh grease in there to keep the dirt out regularly.

W-bodies are kinda heavy in the front. same reason desiel trucks go threw them so fast (weight)... Also the stock ball joints/tie rod ends don't have grease zurks on them so you can't grease them...

the grand am's are like that too no grease fittings on them so you cant add grease.
i know when i took the tie-rods off and cut the boots off they were dry as a bone. def made steering easier when i replaced them and now i can grease them

Oh wow, I thought fords were the only ones to do the bone head move of non-greaseable ones.... I never knew GM went to that later.... Just another reason I love my early 90's GM car over the newer ones!! They don't build em like they used to! haha I have grease serts on every thing on my car stock.

And they are fricken riveted on so you have to chizzle them out... What a pain in the ass! the new ones are now bolted on so it will be easy to change if they ever need replacing.

Anyone know what thoes extra holes are for? maybe another car using the same Ball J? they are also unused on mine...

my tie rod ends feel "loose". they don't have any abnormal movement just easy to wiggle around, im guessing they are ready too. Then new ball joint feels "Stiff" compared to the tie rod ends, so im guessing they are about ready to replace as well.. Or is that how they are supposed to feel?

Any tips on replacing the tie rod ends? im guessing you can use a couple open ended wrenches and they just twist off?

the threaded holes are for the factory heat sheild. Also wheel movement side to side should be more free than up and down.
