  • HELP!!!

OK....so here is the deal. Once I finally got my 95 converted to 97 car up and running (bad PCM), it has been great. LOVE the DOHC motor.....although I already used to it

Anyhow.....have about 10K on it since I finsished it up three months ago. Was running great.....until Tuesday, when I was leaving work. As always, it started up perfectly and off I went. About a block away from work it lost power (but still ran), and I was able to coast to a stop. Engine died and would not restart. Not even a backfire or pop.....nothing. As I was coasting down from the loss of power, there was a ticking in the engine....but not bad.

Was able to grab a forklift and pull it back to the business, and it has been sitting since. I was able to pop the inspection cover for the timing belt....and the belt was still good and tight....but it had an oily residue (?) on it?

My guess is the belt slipped a couple teeth somewhere....probably on the main drive pulley. I would think if only one cam slipped, it would still run.....but like turd.

    Any opinions?

Do these things jump teeth often? I know I need to pull the thing apart to retime her (at a minimum) but I need to find the source of the oil film too. It may have been coolant.....who knows! Grrr.....

They can if you get oil on them. I would find the source of the oil fix it and change the timing belt and re time it.

    96 Z34 3.4 SC DOHC Getrag, 284 5sd manual transmission, stage 3spec clutch, 97 engine, 97 pcm, S3 intercooler 1 of 1 Roots SC LQ1 in the world 8.5 psi.

I'm not 100% sure if it is oil or coolant. I *did* have that crack in the front cover that I JB welded. It was holding fine....but maybe something let go

I'm pulling it apart this week....unless I sell it first.

      Thanks!
