Im hearing a whining noise under the hood near the egr/firewall area. thought it was the power steering at first but thats on the other side of the engine. was told maybe the heater motor but that isnt in that area either. no vac leaks, no loss of power. any ideas what is causing this? a/c works fine when not on the throttle, but when on the throttle: nothing but hot air. blower is working fine. oh, btw, the brakes dont work as good as they used too before i started hearing this sound...

You check your brake booster vacuum line that runs from the booster to your UIM?

problem solved. tore apart the egr today and douched it out real good with deep creep. even filled the egr tube with it. smoke went everywhere for about 10 minutes but cleared up. also took the brake booster hose off and found a piece of plastic jammed in it, cleaned out the tube, replaced it, no more whirring sound and brakes work perfect. now i wonder which of the two was causing the sound. i even went so far as taken the egr valve apart and deep cleaning it inside and out. mans best friend is without question: DEEP CREEP!!!

Update: tore apart the brake booster vacuum line today and found a huge tear in the hose. "see pic below", went to lowes and bought a heater hose 1 1/2 foot long and stuck it in its place. unreal how good the brakes work now. thanks for the tip...
