How do I remove and replace the old stud from a GM side-mount battery cable? From looking at it, I could not see what holds the terminal in place. The car is a 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme.
The reason for this is question is that the negative terminal doesn't tighten sufficiently to get a reliable connection. It just starts getting snug, and if I tighten any further past that point, it gets loose.
It's not the threads in the battery, I've had the issue with different batteries. And it's not due to over-tightening, because it is impossible to over tighten. The terminal starts tightening and snugging up to the battery, but if I attempt to tighten any further, the studs threads slip out of the battery. The trouble is the tightest I can get this connection (the just starting to get snug point) is not enough to prevent the loosening of the terminal that comes with driving the car.
Thanks in advance for any help with this.
