well this morning I thought I would take a look at it in the light and see if i could see anything I started it up and it idled fine so I shut it down. got out of the car. Then went to get back in and it was dinging because the keys were in it I got in and shut the door and it cut the power to everything. Nothing electric works. Seems like a message from god not to start it up until I take a look at it or something!

what are the signs the timing is off? It seems to rev up fine at Idle but in gear it has no power and sometime makes a quick sound its hard to describe. It kind of sounds like the belt jumping time? I don't know though.

Thud/thump could be backfires through the intake which would indicate incorrect timing on the belt. My advice would be to put the #1 cylinder at TDC and check the timing belt.

yeah looks like im going to have to time it again if i can find out whats going on with the electrical system. man I was so excited when it first started right up and there was smoke rolling out from the hood from the oil and antifreeze in there burning off and hear the sound of it running it was a great moment I hope i can get it straightened out I want to drive it again bad! I have been driving a pontiac vibe around and that thing just doesn't drive like a z34.

The best feeling in the world is when it starts. Sorry to hear about your new problem. These engines are such a PITA. Ya fix one thing and something else goes wrong. Rarely does it run right after doing major work to them. I'd say try retiming it again when you get it started. I don't know what your electric problem could be except maybe you didn't tighten a ground wire somewhere that you might have taken off. GL and don't get too agrivated with it b/c you'll just end up throwing a wrench through the windsheild. (experience) If ya get too mad just walk away and come back an hour later, it helps. These 3.4's will do that to you.

Actually, once you start working on them for a while, they aren't near the pain you think they are. I could retime one in my sleep now. I've done some of the major work you speak of (countless timing belts, change heads, 5 speed swap) and mine run fine. The only thing wrong with the one I drive atm is the dist. o ring because I neglected to change it when I was doing the head swap before the 60v6 meet, and I couldn't get the old one out. With my short amount of downtime available (only the weekend due to work on Monday) I said forget it, and left the original one in there. Then again, I've gotten to the point where I started that weekend head swap on Friday afternoon after letting it cool for an hour or so after work and fired it up Saturday around noon... so yeah, the LQ1 doesn't phase you after you get your hands dirty with it after a while. Now the 99 van with the 3400 I pulled the engine out of, or the Mercury Villager (Nissan Quest) I did heads on, those were a pain.

did anyone catch the single exhuast? I had to get a new one for inspection so i just went with 1 since it is half the cost and I am on a tight budget. Seems to have the same performance but lost some of the sweet z34 looks. Got about 400 miles on it and still running great.

hey just thought I would update you on my car! I got about 4,000 miles on it. The head gaskets seem to be working great still. It left me stranded the other day, It wouldn't start just clicked. the positive connection terminal bolt must have came loose and it stripped out so it wasn't getting a good connection. I had to work on it in like 6 degree weather not fun at all it took me a while to figure out what the heck was going on. also i broke some hose lines i was trying to take the one that goes in the intake off and I snapped the 3 way junction right off at 2 places.

I let it sit for 2 weeks in winter weather then started it up and since then it isn't running right it has a miss and i can smell gas I think it might have went out of time but I am not sure.

also the low coolant light is always on, even when full. I read on here the sensor gets corroded. I have a very small coolant leak somewhere i notice some steam coming from the hood vents occasionally at stop signs I looked hard to see where it is coming from but couldn't find it I think it is one spot the hose clamp won't tighten down good i need to get a better one.

also the ABS doesn't work I think I need new sensors and I never realized how nice having abs is until driving without it!

I have to drive it in the winter and as some of you know this car is definitely not made for winter weather. It drives great in the snow but snow builds up in the wheel wells real bad, the windshield wipers wont close in the tuck spot even when i try digging out all the ice and snow the best i can, I try everything to keep the doors from freezing i coat them with silicon but the doors still freeze up then you break the handles trying to get it open so i just leave the door open a little so i can get in but then the door won't latch because the latch is froze up. The door locks freeze so I just leave my car unlocked at all times but then the dang auto lock locks them then I am locked in my car because the lock freezes shut, then you try to crawl out the dang window and the windows won't go down because there froze shut so you are stuck in the car (has happened with 2 of my buddies with me! luckily we sat in the car for a little bit hoping we were not going to die from carbon monoxide poisoning and the heater eventually thawed one of the windows so we could crawl out! and my one buddy is like 300 pounds lol. I have also broke both door handles before because i was driving it with only 1 good one and then the other broke so I called AAA and they couldn't help me get it open so i took a crow bar to the handle piece broke some of it off so i could reach the lever.

just needed to vent a little!
