So I went to replace the old switch and the part has the wrong bracket at the metal end. I cannot connect the long black plastic part that has the transmission lock on it. It needs wholes for the phillips screws....

Sony Man where did you get your part from ?

      Gonna check advanced auto today...

Yo, go ahead and head over to O'reilys and get one. It should cost ya around 80 some bucks. I think you're talking about the retangular black part that attaches to the left side of the ignition switch from the gear shifter but be specific on the make, model and year when you go. Your ignition switch may be set up a little different than mines. Before you buy, are you sure you checked and verified every part that participates in cranking the car starting at the positive wire at the battery to the ignition swtich inside? For example tight/clean connections all the way round, the positive battery wire to the starter, the starter itself, solinoid wire to the park/neutral switch, the park/neutral switch itself, the other wire (should be thick like the other one right beside it) all the way through the firewall to the inside leading to the BIG wire harness(most likely this wire should be okay since it has less contact and is covered securely), to the ignition switch itself. I myself utilized salvage parts to help lead me to the culprit plus understanding the wiring of the starting circuit, is how i diagnoised and i found the problem.
