ok, now that I have the car right you should check the positive cable provided all the connection and grounds you can find have been checked.

another slim posibility is a faulty neutral safty switch. The start signal form the ignition switch has to pass through the safty switch on its to the starter. But I'd go with the positive cable to start. though that more commonly causes the vehicle to continuously crank

Yeah we already established that, and I apologized a few post ago, but flame on my friend.

Don't waste your time, that won't be it. If it clicks the starter, then it got the OK from that switch. It got the OK from the ignition switch as well.

When it does the clicking, beat on the starter with something heavy. Use a hammer or something. When mine did it while I was out and about, I used the factory lug wrench and it fired up every time after a good beating. That told me it was the solenoid on the starter. But yeah, I back up Sappys last post. The signal goes from the ign. switch to the P-N safety switch, then to the starter. So since the starter is clicking, everything before it is fine. I've been down this road too :P If it still does it after beating the starter like a rented mule, then I would check the cables for corrosion inside the insulation. The one on my 92 had it creaping down about 8-10" of the cable. Curiosity killed the cat and I kept stripping off insulation to see how far down it went after I replaced it.

                    AWWW KITTY!!!!!

I never had a problem with wiring just the starter itself... Intermittenly would not crank at all, as if there was no power getting to it, but there was.

With use the contact plate inside the solenoid housing does wear out..and can cause what you're suffering from, but you did mention that out of the car the starter was behaving normally.

i purchased and installed a new positive cable today. It cranked 4 out of 5 times firmly with only one click...tell me your thoughts on that?

Check the ground wire and the ground connections, especially the one with 4+ connections on the bellhousing. Pull that bolt out and make sure its clean inside and the bolt is clean. Wire brush would be a good idea. Id say you are getting closer:P
