  • Service manuel?

I need one. Are there different ones? My motor is a 92.

    Thanks

There is lots of different ones, but the engine information will be SIMILAR.

Check on EBAY for the GM service manuals. I prefer to get the books themselves, and not the CD's.

I bought a 1993 book for my Cutlass Supreme for only $12.00. I bought a 1999 Grand Am set for only $30 (3 books), I bought a 1997 Aurora set (2 books) for only $28.

There is a 3 book set for the Gran prix on Ebay. Would this cover the rebuild of a DOHC? This a factory set of manuals.

What about that book How to rebuild your 60degree v6 book? Is it worth getting?

If it were up to Taylor and I, we'd have the biggest 1985+ GM shop manual collection in existence...lol

            jay, you are SO RIGHT.

For the grand prix books, it depends on the YEAR. A 1997+ grand prix book will not cover the 3.1 DOHC. Neither will any book before 1991.

There is 3 different versions of the 3.4 DOHC, so which one are you working with? There is the 1991-1993 OBD1 MPFI version, the 1994-1995 OBD1.5 SFI version, and the 1996-1997 OBD2 SFI version (1997 in the Lumina/Monte Carlo only).

Which engine are you working with?

I was told it is a 92' but how can I tell the differance? The manual I found on Ebay is for a 92'. I just purchased a engine manual of Ebay earlyier tonight. It was cheap so I said what the hell. The manual I am getting is just for the Twin Duel Cam engine and its 47 pages. Do you know the book I'm talking about?

I don't know which one. I just get the normal full car line books, and I only get the supplements when I have a reason too. For example, when I got my 1990 Grand Prix STE, I also got the STE supplement for it.

easiest way to tell is look at the EGR or throttle body, and the front cam carrier cover.

If it has a removable throttle body, or the LINEAR EGR, then it is the 1996-1997.

Next, look at the FRONT CAM COVER. Look at the area to the right (away from the belts). If there is a sensor in the top right next to the cover, then it is a 1994-1995. If there is NO sensor, then it is the earlier one.

Here is a pic of the cam position sensor on my 1995 Cutlass Supreme. This engine is a 1994 that I swapped in. My original 1995 blew up. The only difference between the 1994 and the 1995 that I can find is the 1994 does not have the oil level sensor on the oil pan.

And this is what a 91-93 DOHC looks like:

                  -60v6's 2nd Jon M.
                  91 Black Lumina Z34-5 speed
92 Black Lumina Z34 5 speed (getting there, slowly... follow the progress here)
94 Red Ford Ranger 2WD-5 speed

I don't think mine has that sensor. He said it was a 92'. So I guess thats pretty close.
