  • Relocate Coil Pack - Questions

ok ive decided tommarow i will be relocating the coil pack on my 92 z34.

Now is there anything specific i need to watch out for? I Was going to relocate it to the left side up by the front chassis brace. Do the bolts have to be grounded to the chassis or anything special?

I Planned to just drill a couple holes, mount it and call it a day.

    Will this work fine?

there is a single ground wire that needs a solid ground.

reloacting the coils is a easy task, really. You need to do a couple things first.
      1. Find a mouning location
      2. Mount the coils
      3. Modify the wiring
      4. Move wires
      5. PLug in and done

Now its pretty simple. For mounting the coils, I would either mount them on the side brace, on the side of the plenum, or somewhere close to that place. You dont want them to far away. The next thing you need to do is mount the coils. I moved mine to the side brace and used 2 SS button head screws. I modded the aluminum bracket by cutting off the two end pieces that are bent and just left the flat piece. I can shoot up a pic tonight. The next thing is the wiring. I would try and untangle the wiring and bring it over to the area that you are going to be mounting the coils to. I know for the Crank sensor wire that is mounted on the rear of the block I had to add wire. I did this by cutting the two wires and soldering 2 new wires and then twisting them back together and taping them up with ELE tape. Once you have all this one its just moving the plug wires and its plug and go. As far as the gounds, I know that I did not have any attached to the aluminum bracket so what ever gorunds that it uses, if it even does, is still attached to the bellhousing, so thats still fine. Good luck

What wire are you talking about, as far a single ground wire? Is it attached to the bellhousing??

yep, little black one with an eyelit in it. as long as it is on a good ground ie frame/body or block, you'll be ok.
