  • s10 1991 original 2,8L to 3,4L 24V

hi i'm from germany and my english is not so good!
i want more power in my s10 but i don't want to pay many for that and a 3,4L 24V engine is not so expensive!
but can i get this engine in my s10 without any probs?
    i have a t5 manual transmission!
what do I have to change around this engine without problems to insert?
which parts gives it to buy around this engine to tune and from where do I get these?

i hope you understand me lol

English is much better then my German is

Anyway, there is a guy who put the 3.4 DOHC into a Camaro, I just forget his name. A couple things though not all:

-starter is on the other side since it is a FWD engine, have to drill mounting holes on other side
-not sure about oil pan clearance
-not sure if the engine is narrow enough to fit between the strut towers
-the T5 trans should bot up just fine, if you have a new enough (internally balanced) 2.8 you should be able to re-use your flywheel and clutch
-the TB will be pointing into the firewall, not sure if you have clearance or not for that.
-oil filter location? not sure if the RWD has an adapter or not

For the most part the 3.4 DOHC is the same engine as the 2.8, just a little longer due to the timing belt up front and much much wider up top due to the cam carriers

Two things I will point out or clarify here...

There aren't strut towers in the S series truck, just things like the brake MC and fenderwells to clear.

Second, 1988 and up should all be neutrally balanced.

Yes, the 3.4 Litre 12v engine from a Camaro (93-95) would be significantly easier (the easiest choice), BUT, do you have those V6 camaros (and/or firebirds) over there?

If you were to use a 3400 12v engine from a Chevy Trans Sport, Chevy Alero, or otherwise, it will still be almost the same difficulty to mount as the 24v engine

But the 3.4 24v surely isn't impossible, just a bit more work.

Cliff8928 already said you could use the Camaro engine, or one of the FWD engines if you did a bit of work.

You'll have to make custom engine mount bracketry.... The only direct-mounting solution is the 3.4 from the Firebird and Camaro.

You could always go to your local GM Dealer and order the 3.4 crate engine for your S-10 and that would be the easiest solution of all!
