Timing Belt - How long should they last ?

Hi guys/Gals,

I did my timing belt at 97K miles, did the whole 9 yards, tensioner belt etc...all the things recommended by the team here.

I opened up the front cover yesterday and it seems the damn thing is slipping off the cams again...I have 110K miles on it now.

I see some black hairs etc..and it seems like its about 2mm moved off the origional place onthe cam.....

Is this normal ? When should I have to change it again ?

You replaced all the idler pulleys, the tensioner pulley, AND the tensioner actuator?

Is the belt running off the end of the cam cogs?

Mine has done this before. As much as it doesn't really sound normal, I've seen other DOHC do it too. That doesn't make it a good thing though. Mines done it after replacing idlers and tensioner pulley...

My timing belt tensioner bracket broke and the belt went crazy...oddly enough it didnt break or fall off...

Yes I did the idler pulleys, the tensioner pulley, AND the tensioner actuator.

Seems like the belt is running off the cams, and grinding against the TB cover.

its only a little right now...just wondering if I need to be concerned or not....

Just keep an eye on it, maybe check it once a week if your really concerned. Like I said, I've seen a few DOHC do this, and honestly, I don't think there is a whole lot we can do about it, sadly

Are your cam cogs bent/dented? The idler pulleys have lips that keep the belt from running too far forward. Your idler pulleys may be messed up or one of the bolts has loosened up..
