  • Cracked Heads

Well I got these from a junk yard, but I was wondering how common this is? Both the front and rear head had a small crack in them. I origanaly got these to try out some porting and polish but now I guess they really are practice heads oh well I suppose 50 bucks isn't to bad a price for a learning tool.

So, I know this engine was most likely overheated, but My question is this. I have owned many 660 engines this being my first DOHC, in the other engine that I have owned they proved very reliable and hard to overheat, is this not the case with the DOHC?

Mine has overheated before, but never cracked. Overheating was due to my negligence though. Head swaps, and not sitting still long enough to burp all the air out was the cause. The other times were the stupid cooling fans failing on a hot day in light city traffic. It is easy to overheat if you have the new sheet metal style water pump though, so if yours goes, get a reman one, not the brand new.

The core I used for my build had been overheated. The heads had been decked by the previous owner. No cracks though..
