Some say its important but are oil takes alot of heat to break down synthetic oil is even more. I would be afrade of having the line break lose and starting a fire or leak and run out of oil and sump goes dry.
96 Z34 3.4 SC DOHC Getrag, 284 5sd manual transmission, stage 3spec clutch, 97 engine, 97 pcm, S3 intercooler 1 of 1 Roots SC LQ1 in the world 8.5 psi.
you can get one from the J/Y, they are found in any 91-93 lq1 based w-body.
these coolers are actually really efficient(and expensive), moreso than the aftermarket ones. these are liquid coolers not air coolers, if a line pops off you'll be losing coolant not oil. no fire hazard but hopefully you'll be watching your guages and shut it down be4 you're engine overheats to the point of dire expense.
not much for junk yards when it comes to parts like this. I found a brand new one from GM for $200. Might have to go that way. I am rebuilding an LQ1 in a 93 grand prix. Got a good deal on the car, and want to do it right. Thanks for all the input! This is a good site I happened to stumble upon!
Thank again,
Mark.
Volvo one will fit with a custom adapter. I'm using one. There's a guy on ebay selling them for ~$150 with the adapter. He doesn't say its a Volvo part but it sure looks EXACTLY like the one on my friend's Volvo. Not too many cars besides the Chevy DOHC V6 and Volvos have coolers like that. I forget what the search terms are.. but try looking up oil cooler and whatever the thread pitch is for your oil filter; I think its 18mm x 1.5 or something close to that.
