  • New timing belt installed - Fast idle problem

Just completed the new timing belt on my 3.4 95 Lumina. Now it has a fast idle, like 2500 rpm's in park, and this is after it is warmed up. I installed the timing belt by locating TDC on #1 and then just a hair going down, locked in the rear cams, turned the crank 1 turn to TDC again (used a wooden dowell pin in #1 cylinder to find TDC) locked down the front cams. The car runs fine, no missing or anything, just a fast idle. The only problems I noticed was with the EGR valve, the gasket looked like it could have broken when I was putting the intake back on, not sure though. I read in the text version of the timing belt install that the EGR can casue a fast idle. The service engine soon light is also on, not sure if it was on before or not, I just bought the car. Any ideas??? Could the cam timing be off causing the fast idle? Even thought there is no miss in it??? Could it be the EGR? Please help if you can, thanks...

my money is on an intake leak... and with a back egr gasket im sure that that is where the air is leaking in... for 2500k the leak is prob about 1/16" to 1/8" in size where the air is coming in... deff not a pin hole.

I guess I will try the spray on the intake first to see if that makes a difference.....might be the intake gasket I have read. Thanks.

Check to see if you pluged the idle air in.
