Has anyone ever tried this procedure?

I was going to try it and ordered the kit (part number 12538687) from GM Direct but it came back a day later that it was no longer available.

Ok, thanks Cliff. Does it really help though?

Not sure on that TSB, I'm sure that it will help. Personally, I noticed a huge difference between synthetic and dino oil. Both tick a bit in the cold, but the synthetic is definately quieter.

          Oil Filter

Try a good oil filter, can't remember the site that specifies oil filters and which is a good one to use for the Z34. I stopped using the fram filter and bought a longer filter like tthe original one from Crappy Tire and the car is alot more quiet.
I recomend buying the GM approved filters for the Z34.

            Pureone is a great filter.

Thanks guys I'll try the better filter.

It turned out the cam kit at Bill Heard Chev was an inventory error anyway and GM Direct could not get it.

It looks like the only thing they were accomplishing with the update was to reduce the oil flow by half to the cams thrust plate. Hmmm, anyone know if those metal plugs in the ends of the cam are available by size?

ESPECIALLY ON the 3.4L DOHC, you should be runnign Mobil 1 synthetic, I use 5w30, and a Pureone oil filter. It si blue, and costs like 8 bucks

But it wis well worth it, a 35 dollar change every 3k miles saved me almost $2,000 in new cams, lifters, etc when i rebuilt my motor. And the motor never ticked unless cold or I ran it really hard after it was just barely low on oil. My 3.4 was pretty anal, if it wasn't dead on with oil it'd click a little.

After the rebuild, it never clicks tho.
