  • 3.4 running, but not good

I just got done putting my 95 3.4 back together in my monte. Started on the first turn, but wasnt running right. I took the timing cover off and checked to make sure my timing marks matched, which they did. Then i checked my plug wires. I found out that the front three plugs arent firing right. I had the engine running and i could have all three plugs out in the front and it wouldnt run any different. But the min i took one of the back ones out it dies. I need your help!!!!!!!!

Timing marks? Did you make sure the cam flats are lined up properly with the timing mark on the timing chain cover?

If its only ignition, the front three spark plugs or wires are shot. Each of the rear cylinders is paired with a front cylinder, so if one is getting spark, the other is. That would mean the coil packs are fine, as is the crank position sensor and the module.

Im wondering if its timed right still. If its marks on the cam gears, they are worthless most of the time. If the front bank is timed wrong, the spark isnt gonna change it much anyway.

ill check the timing again, but i dont know. Plus another thing is that GM and chiltons have two different ways to run the plug wires. Gm say to run them 143625, and then chiltons says to run them 146325. That i dont understand and both are for a 1995 3.4. Thanks for the feedback

Plus how would i change the timeing for just the front set of cams? Now that the marks are no good? I dont want to change the back ones because they seem to be tuned in.Thanks

You can unbolt the cam gears and pop the lock rings out without removing the belt. You can do the fronts and rears easily in a 95 because the belt will spin around independent of the cams without have to remove the cam gears first.

Both manuals are right, because each coil pack fires 2 cylinders at once.
