  • WTF.. Emissions B/S

I got emissions on March 3 (Thursday) .. and my EGR valve is making a loud noise, so tonight I went to AutoZone and bought a brand fuckin new one and its doing the fucking same thing. Excuse my language, but this god damn fuckin emissions shit is fuckin up my car. The new EGR is doing the same thing, and the AIR pump is constatly running, whining like a stupid little kid. Whoever invented this emissions bullshit they put in cars (back in 75 or so) should be taken to a dark alley.

But anyway, Im in a crunch now. All I have is 6hours to fix this problem with EGR, or else Im gonna fail the test. When I floor it, you can smell the exhaust fumes comin thru my vent. I cleaned off the old gasket material, got new gaskets on. I know I fucked up, when I put that carburetor cleaner down the metal hose that goes into the exhaust, thought it woulda cleaned out carbon, but ever since, the EGRs have been runnin like shit.

Sorry for the essay, but heres the point, is it possible carbon COULD have built up in that hose?

    Thanks

Maybe there was carbon in the hose, and you cleaned it out. But when you did you opened up a hole in the hose. Then it would suckin air and screw up every thing, also it's an exhaust leak right under the heater air intake. Basicaly it's acting like a gasket leak. I have no experience with AIR so I have no clue about that.

Carburetor cleaner is a cleaning solvent, it evaporates super quick especially under high temps. Other than clean in there, I can't see it hurting anything. That EGR sees the worst your engine puts out I don't think it would care. But you can spray it right in you intake so it's not going to hurt anything. You can quote me on that.

i failed emmisons soooo bad with my GTP it wasnt even funny. i should scan my results and post them. i think it was because of the cam timing, because i didnt get a ses light.

Exhaust would be blowing out of the hose, not being sucked out. I would stick a metal coat hanger down it to knock all of that crap loose if there is some in there. The tube that goes from the EGR into the plenum could be clogged too.

I have to take mine through CT emissions when I put it back on the road. Did they hook up to the cars computer through the aldl port? Can you tell me the specifics of the test? Do they sniff at the exhaust with a probe? Did they pop the hood?? I dont even have an egr now!

yeah, um, aaron, they probably have state run testing like we do in ohio, not independent shops.

you cant bribe the state shops easily unless you get someone that flat out asks you if you want to if you fail

I already took the upper intake manifold off, even took an air compressor to it. Clean as a whistle. Thats why I thought it was the EGR tube assembly (or maybe wiring harness?) ..
We got independent shops here in CT. I only failed in the NOx area. The allowed was like 1208 and my score was 1452. Stupid assholes at the Harte Chevy I went to, I told them I had no neutral safety switch, but the dumb asshole cranked it without my clutch in, and I watched the dude hit the curb with my god damn car.

ALSO I noticed this morning, when I got outta work (6AM) the EGR was making the same putting sound pattern that was comin outta my exhaust. So hopefully, when I fix this EGR mess, my exhaust will stop putting and my car wont have exhaust comin thru the vents

Yup CT has independent shops performing the tests. But its all new. They just reinstated emissions which used to be done at state only facilities. I'm sure they went through the trouble of liscensing reputable and honest places (certain dealerships for one) to perform the test. I doubt any of these places are willing to risk their neck for a $10 bribe. The last time my car was tested was about 3-4 years ago at the old facility. It passed with a wide margin in all areas. But now, I dont have an egr and I got the exhaust cams set pretty wild. I know at the very least I will need to get a functioning egr system and remove the fdp chip so lean cruise doesnt kick in, but I'm really wondering if the cam timing is gonna dirty things up that much. I plan on toning it back to -13* on the exhaust side, but now I think I may just set it for stock timing and then change it back afterwards. It'll be a pain in the ass to do it twice but at least the second time around will be a little bit easier with the 94 gears installed.

anybody know of a proven additive to fuel that will lower emissions? Theres a lot of stuff on the shelf at the auto store but who knows if it works. I heard dry gas helps?

Im a dumbass, just took off the new EGR valve and noticed something .. The gasket that came with the new valve, was different then whats suppose to be. I was just in a hurry to install the thing, I guess I mislooked it. Oh yeah, no more noise, no more exhaust coming in my vent, and the AIR pump isnt running always now. I guess it was compensating for the exhaust leak. Should pass emissions no problems now. But anywho, like to thank you guys thru this mumbo jumble.

                            Thanks again,
