I am about to drive this car off a cliff! I bought it about 1 1/2 years ago with 87,000 I now have 116,000 on it. I replaced the plugs with the bosch + 4's last year and also bought bosch plug wires for like $90.00 at the same time. In the last month I have replaced all three coils and the ignition modual because I keep getting a "random multiple misfires" code. The car burned up the converter a little over a month ago when this all started. I now have two codes p0140 & p0141 whitch are both o2 sensor related and another code that says "ignition modual low voltage".

Basicaly the car will normaly drive fine but sometimes it just shuts off but never when going slow only when cruising at highway speeds. I notice it happends more when I set the cruise, it starts to hesitate after a short while the it just quits. I put it in nuetral and turn the key off and it will usally after fire (back fire out of the tail pipe). I now have to replace the mufflers because it blew them so hard once they are now anoyingly loud. I also notice that sometimes when it is running shitty it will not rev past 4750rpm I will sit in my drive way and floor it and it acts like its on the rev limiter and it make a sound from somewhere in the drivers side under the hood that sound like air escaping from somthing as it bounces off 4750rpm.

Thanks in advance and I'm glad to have found this board, I have already found some other useful information while reading it the past few days

+4s are junk, so I would start by removing them ASAP. Your limiter in park is normal and not a sign of anything wrong.

It could be that the crank position sensor is faulty but I dunno about that one. The voltage issue sounds like bad wiring. How old are your O2 sensors? Sounds like they need to be replaced as well.

I will change the +4's but what is good because the rear ones are a pita to do? I'm not sure about the o2 sensors age so I guess it can't hurt to change them but the one is about $50 and the other $75 and I hate throwing money at problems hoping they will go away. Usally, when the car is running fine it will rev to red line when in park not just to 4750rpm.

Any more help will be appreciated and I will keep you posted on the plug change

AC Delco or AC Delco Rapidfires. Most performance people here go with the Rapidfires.

Usually? That don't sound right, you should have a limiter there and it sould be an all the time thing. Maybe you do have a crank position sensor bad, that's why it will let your car rev that high sometime's. It would explain some of your other problems too.

what should it rev to when its in park and I floor it? I will look in to the crank position sensor, where is it located on the motor?

I dont know on a 96, since it is OBD2 I dont have the code to look at and tell you the exact RPM it will free rev to. Its not redline though, I am pretty sure of that.

My '94 Revs to around 4000 some where. It's hard to tell with analog guages and the needle jumping around when it hits the limiter. Is my car an OBD2?

A 94 is what most people here call "OBD 1.5", lol. It has an OBD2 plug, w/ OBD 1 computer IIRC. The 95's might have been the ones that went to the flash type PCM (no MEMCAL, or chip). I could be wrong though, I am pretty tired from work, so my brain isn't running at 100%, but then again, when does that ever happen?
