  • no power, no SES light, need some help

    Hi, I have a 92 z34 3.4 with auto.

couple days ago I was leaving home for work and while going up the street, it lost power like somebody flipped a switch. to the point i have to floor it and down shift whenever i want to accelerate.
The car seems to be running ok until you drive it, meaning it idles fine, maybe a couple hundred rpm lower than usual but it sounds ok.
whenever I test drive it smokes a bit from the undercarriage, seeming to come from the exhaust, thats why i checked the cat.

I have replaced the egr valve, tps, iac, and checked the cat (ran open headers up and down the street.. neighbors gave funny looks).
It has never displayed a ses light, when I pulled the codes all i got was a code 35 (iac) which I then changed out and it did not make a difference.

I have found one broken vacuum line that goes over the brake booster and along the firewall as a rubber line then transfers to a plastic line... which has melted through from the heat from the exhaust, so i have no idea where it goes to, i think it had a 90degree connector at the end of it, I saw it hanging loose when i changed out my high pressure line, couldn't find where it went then either.

At this point I am lost as what to look at next, what really boggles me is that there is no ses light and it idles fine, if not a little low, it doesn't seem to have a miss and it doesn't smoke at all, oil looks good too.

    Thanks for the help.

I'd look into your coil packs and then possibly your ICM. But running good at low RPMs but crappy out up high sounds like coils to me.

well I looked into it a bit further. Seems I did not have spark on cyl 2 and 5, so I replaced that coil... but I still have no spark. Any ideas? is there a fuse that I cannot find that controls just that coil?
      Thanks

          most likely Ignition Control modual

swap them around and see if the dead cyl follow the coil, or if its allways that 1 spot on the ICM
just keep track of how your firing order is :P

Is there a way to test the ICM? I dont want to spend another 100$ without being sure.
            Thanks again

yes, just about any auto parts store can test ICM and i know they can test that one because they tested mine.. I was running into the same problems i thought it was the icm also but it tested good, it ended up being a bare wire that pluged into the ICM, if it is bad get one from a junk yard and it the store and get it tested too before u put it on
