  • The First Real Road Test Fiasco

Friday I left home to be with my familiy in response to my father in law going in the hopital. 100 miles out my oil pressure pegs out, after a quick pull over listening for abnormal noise I pressed on. about 200 miles out I pulled over to pee and I had only one fan running with the A/C on MAX. Pull into my Dad's driveway and the dis O-ring is pissing like a hose.

I spent most of my weekend fixing and replacing. Running to the hospital, running errands, and generally being tired.

I will be doing the final tweaking here in an hour when I can get back over to my Dad's place and start working on the Prix again.

the only thing that gave me a fit was the stupid heater hose coupling next to the thermostat. It just twisted off and left the threads balls deep in my intake. Nothing a hacksaw and some elbow grease couldn't fix.

Now hereeither in an few hours or in the morning I will do another road test when I go home.... Cross your fingers and pray for me.

Alright this is getting annoying. Now my fuel pump won't shut off, ignition off and the pump is still running. I pulled the fuse and it shut off. Any ideas on this one? I'm going home here in a couple of hours (300 miles) and would like to get it fixed before I get on the road.

Wow, why was the oil pressure spiked? As for the fuel pump, is the ignition switch turned off or is that stuck on? If not that I would look at the fuel pump relay, it could have a contact stuck (welded on from resistance and heat build up)

Beats me but the new sender fixed it. Now that I'm home I'm gonna trouble shoot the fuel pump some more. When I pulled the relay it stayed running. About half way home last night my headlights died for about a second, I quickly turned the switch off and back on and they came back up. Kinda scary at 90MPH on a dark country road at 2:30 in the morning. I also noticed now that when I am idleing at a stop my check guages comes on and my oil pressure is dipping down to about 30psi.

maybe a short somewhere. I replaced the relay with a junkyard spare and it shut off like it should. Things like this drive me nuts.

The fuel pump is also powered through the oil pressure sensor. If the sensor thinks you have oil pressure the fuel pump WILL stay on. The computer only tells the fuel pump to turn on when you first turn the key on and then it counts on the car starting, building oil pressure and closing the switch inside oil pressure sensor. Sounds like your oil pressure sensor took a shit.
