  • Stalling when pushing in clutch at temp.

I am posting this for my sisters car. It is a 91 Gran Prix, 3.4dohc, 5spd.

After having the engine replaced. It has developed the problem of stalling only when you push in the clutch, when the engine is at operating temp. Had the timing set, idle set, and new throttle position sensor. And the problem is still there. It does not give any error codes. And her mechanic has given up on the car. They just do not know enough about the motor to diagnose the problem. If I had some information to point them in the right direction. Any more info that is needed please ask.

try turning up the idle screw on the throttlebody. also take a voltage reading off of the tps sensor at idle. ideally it should read .5xx but you can go over, if it reads less than that it may be the problem.

The TPS has already been changed, and the idle was set....But I will check, and post again...What is the hot idle need to be set at? Around 1200rpm? Thank you.

What about the IAC valve? If the engine is running fine with the throttle valve open, and then it goes shut quickly, something needs to still provide some airflow to the engine. A sticking or slow IAC would cause the air passage around the throttle plate to remain shut and thus stalling the car.

Did you reset the Prom chip to factory, the roll-off curve seems to be unaltred from the old setup and will take a long time or trip to relearn. Reset the prom learning feature and make sure the tech programs a raw bin made for a 5 speed application.

How do you reset the Prom? This is something that I know was probably not done.
