  • Accessory belt tensioner

My accessory belt tensioner ('92) has a piece of spring (about 1/2") hanging out of it. Is this repairable or should I replace? On the hunch that I should just replace it, I checked out RockAuto and GMPartsDirect and neither source shows it available. Suggestions?

I had the same problem - you're going to have to replace it down the road, I think, because mine had the same problem. Eventually it just weakened the surrounding plastic and "sprung" out, rendering it incapable of putting tension on the serpentine. I had to get a replacement from a dealer, neither PartsSource nor Ukrainian Tire had it (on the upside, it was only about $20).

What part did of it did you replace? When I repalced mine, I had to get the whole spring and arm with the pulley. Cost over $100.00. What gives?

Get a new one if you can. They go bad on all cars all the time.

Wow, $100 for that new part, Lyle? I just walked into Stedelbauer Chev on 97th, asked for it and that was the cost Yep, it was the whole arm/spring assembly, too.

Do you have a p/n for the tensioner? I'd appreciate it.

Errr, no, sorry. I never wrote it down, as the dealership had it in stock

Man, They must have screwed up on mine or yours, unless they are different. But that was with my Optimax discount at the time. Damn.
