I am fixing the oil leak (oil plug thingy) I can't seem to find a thing of RTV sealant can I use Red Hi-TEMP gasket maker?

Are you talking about the oil pump drive O ring? Just get the brown O ring and thats it. I have had no luck any other way.

If this is the 3.4, I notched the drive plug, raised it a little bit and cleaned it with Brakleen really well. Then I got an old Chevy distributor gasket, snipped one end of it and fished it in around the shaft. Used the hi-temp sealer liberally, rotating the dummy shaft to ensure total coverage. Then I tightened the thing down, allowed to sit for 24 hrs. to cure. Fired it up, leak was all gone to the day I sold that car about 2.5 years later.

Helluva lot easier than pulling that rear head!!

Of course, if it's a 3.1 or 3100 series, you can pull the dummy shaft and replace the 'o' ring without pulling the rear head.

I have also heard a #45 o ring works too, putting it where the distributor gasket would sit....I probably saw it here somewhere!

I submitted the new article, don't know where it went tho. I found I had a hard time getting the old gasket out, I did however buy two of the new ones from GM just in case I messed it up. You walk into any dealership and go to the parts counter and say you need an o ring for the z34 oil leak and they will know right away!

So did you end up pulling the head or what? How about some detail?

That is an interesting way of doing it. It never ceases to amaze me the way we can improvise on our cars and engines.

I'm curious to see if it holds up, doesn't teflon tape degrade with higher temperatures?
