Does anyone know if the starter from a '96 DOHC will work on a '95 DOHC? It's a lot smaller, lighter and easier to locate because it's the same one used on the 3800's.

Excellent news Josh, thanks! That smaller one will be a lot easier to install if nothing else, and being so plentiful they go for about $25 around here at the yards.

Okay so it turned out to be the ground wire (the little nut on the starter) that had come loose. Got off easy, and I guess I've got an extra mini-starter for my inventory now. But while I was under there I got to wondering... how would you get that thing outta there, anyway?? That makes the alternator look easy! It looks like you would either have to take out the fans then remove the A/C manifold lines from the compressor, or else drop the cradle if you don't want to crack the A/C open. Anybody ever changed a DOHC starter? How did you do it?
