  • Electrical Air Pump

I saw this mentioned in another topic (in DOHC General -> EGR removal?) .. But anywho ..My AIR Pump has become "whiney" .. and I did some research online and came across http://www.carcarecouncil.org/Emissi...njection.shtml ..
And it said as a syptom of a problem would be backfiring out the exhaust and could overheat/restrict your catalytic converter. Well, my 92 GP, has its both mufflers kinda like "putting" .. Wondering if it is related or not?

    Thanks

The putting you hear is a misfire, or a miss. Could be something as simple as plugs and wires.

I would love to say its plugs/wires .. I recently put on new wires (didn't go cheap kind this time either, spent around $100) .. and I have Bosch Platinum +2 or something like that for plugs .. Been putting even with Delco plugs and my other wires .. I replaced the ignition coil module, and one of the coil packs, about 6 - 10 months ago .. The reason why I posted this question was because of these stupid emissions crap they put on .. Got a new EGR vavle and I kno my pipe into intake is clean, and get a code 32 (EGR) .. I was just wondering if the air pump being bad, could cause an occurence like this.

      Thanks

If you still have a code 32, something is either wrong with the new EGR, gasket leak, or the plenum side of the EGR is clogged up. The EGR will cause problems like you describe. Not sure on the AIR since I removed it before it could go bad.

I think the air pump only runs for X amount of time after start-up anyways, so it would be unlikely that it could be the source of a consistent skip.

If you want to check if thats it anyways, just follow the metal lines out of the manifolds until you hit the rubber line, then you can remove the clamp and take the hose off. I believe theres check valves in the metal lines but I still think you'll get some noise/fumes from them with the feed lines removed.

You really don't want those in your engine. They don't work well with our waste spark igntion system. I would go back with the standard Delcos, or the Declo Rapidfires. You will be lucky to get 20k miles out of those Boschs. Anyone here that has had them will tell you this (including me, but I had the +4s).
