  • Intake gasket

Well it is time to do my intake gaskets . My idle is going up to the rev limiter when i start it when it is cold out . And it was comig down when it got warmed up but now it is staying over 1k when going down the road. I did put in a new iac but that didnt take care of it . It has to be the intake so i got all the parts i just have to wait till sunday to do it. I hope it will not hurt anything to drive it till then . I no it dosnt do the tranny any justice . But i wait till it gets warmed up and the idle comes down. IS there anything to look out for on this motor when takeing the intake apart that i should look out for ?
    Thanks, Don

You can use silicone around the ports/coolant passages if you aren't planning on taking it apart again soon. Other than that, there isn't much to it really. You can use a swivel to remove the lower bolt to the head and not have to pull the power steering pump.

Put forth minimal effort seperating the plenum\ throttle body from the coolant line. Ive found it one hell of a lot faster and easier to cut that piece of hose and install a new one each time. Its only like 3/4 x 4 or 5 inch heater hose which you might have laying around anyway. Use a long knife or a hack saw blade. Oh and while you are there see how far you can chuck those 2 spring clamps. Grab a couple stainless hose clamps.

Find me something on this engine that is easy for the average Joe besides changing the oil and the front three plugs, lol.

I HATE that stupid hose... Why didn't they just route it through the manifold like the other one? What a PITA, always leaks.
Okay now, that's enough of that.
