Don't use the bottled shit, it will only make things worse. I aslso heard some where that you are not supposed to switch to synthetic if you are burning oil. It's supposed to make things worse, because it has different viscosity properties and can get into smaller holes. Also it has conditioners that will clean out your engine. Which could cause the little holes that are filled up with gunk to get cleaned out and possibly cause more leaks. In a sence that's all those additives will do is add more gunk.

Yup. Sounds like it's time to rebuild the motor. Or, at the least a new set of rings and a quick cylinder honing.

Don't look at it like its a BAD thing, look at it as an OPPORTUNITY!
While you're rebuilding that bad boy you can port those heads, bore it out, slide in high compression pistons, 12:1 and you're good to go!
Isn't that how all good build up stories start? "Well, I was burning oil, so...."

How do you know its the rings? Check the PCV, that was my problem and now I went from using 1 quart ever 300 miles to using no oil at all.

Hmm .. thanks for the input ... I didnt think 168,000 miles was alot .. but its my first DOHC engine .. damn .. thanks Ben, I recently replaced the PCV valve, but I know the hose has a tear, on both sides .. also, I have been getting some oil in my air filter .. .. just one of those things I been putting off .. I just assumed going through a quart every 3-5 hundred miles, meant the rings. But ever since my timing belt pulleys got loose and shredded the belt when I was going 60MPH, she hasnt been running rite, and plans for a rebuild where in my future (SPRING). I did a compression check, and they all read the same, so I assume my valves are okay. But thanks again, -Jay
