  • Crank sensor

I'm about to buy a 1992 Z34 lumina but it needs a crank sensor. What is the best way to get at it? I haven't looked at it but he has, and he thinks that either the exhaust crossover or exhaust manifold needs to come off. What is the best way to tackle this thing?

Good times with the auto trans in there. I would drop the subframe in the rear as far as you can (after you get the steering disconnected). That will probably be the easiest way to get to it.

i've done it before without removing anything. its a pain though. best i can say is 8mm socket, 12" extension and a 1/4" drive ratchet to get the bolt off - from below. then a long thin flat blade screwdriver to pop the sensor out(from bottom, up through the space between engine and trans). i managed to get my hand in there far enough to get the new sensor in far enough to push it the rest of the way with the ratchet.

It gives me a little hope to hear somebody has done it without taking anything off. I'll have access to a hoist and plenty of tools so hopefully it won't suck that bad. Thanks for the info guys.
