  • Are These 3.4 Cam Sprockets?

The following are pics of my 1995 Monte Carlo Z34, 3.4 Litre cam sprockets:

I bought and received the following tool kit for my 3.4 Litre engine:

I have found that both the sprocket holding tool and the puller do not fit into the sprocket slots. Upon closer inspection, I see that the cam sprocket slots look nothing like the factory manual or the instructions that came with the tool kit. Both show 3 slots (for the holding tool) and 3 key holes (for the puller), I only have long slots in my sprockets that are at a larger diameter than the holding tool.
I am confused. Is there another tool kit out there I need?
Are these the correct cam sprockets for my engine?
Did GM make a change in sprockets mid-year?
    Are these sprockets from a '96 3.4L?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Kent moore. The puller won't work for you as its only for 91-93 that you need it for (stupid lock ring design). The holder should work. I have used it on 94-95 cams and the 96 cam gears as well.

Well, at least I don't have to return them.
Anybody want to buy a new 91-93 puller or 2 new hold downs? <LOL>
Do the 91-93 sprocket slots look like the pics in the manual?
I'll try the holder again. It seemed like it wasn't wide enough. Maybe I'm mistaken.
How is the '95 lock ring design different?
It'll just take a tap to remove the sprocket after the bolts out?

If it wasn't so cold id double check my holder. Yes, the 91-93 look like the manual, with a round hole and a slot for the puller. The 91-93 lock rings are hard to describe. We might have pics in the gallery. 94+ are a big washer with a taper on it that fits inthe gear. Remove the bolt and tap the back of the gear to get the lock ring loose. Or a screw driver and try to pry it out:P

I looked at the holder again and found I needed to clearance the inner diameter of the "prongs" that fit into the sprocket slots. It was rocking back and forth on the ID of the sprocket slots. I clearanced a female round into the inside flat of all 3 prongs and it fit like a glove.
Both front cam sprocket bolts are out (used impact). One sprocket needed tapped to loosen, the other loosened by itself along with the bolt when it cam out.
Bottom line, it was a good night again with all the help from this forum.
            Sincere thanks, guys.

                Yes I am.
I'll be selling the hold-downs also as I already have a pair.
                Make me a fair offer.

Problem is, I bought the hold downs(which I'm selling) in a kit that included the sprocket holder(which I'm keeping), and the cam puller tool(which I'm selling). The kit was $230. I don't remember the cost of the hold downs I bought from etools.com site, which is under construction.
I did attend one NEOCC meeting, but they are just too far away from Parma on a weeknight.
