Hi, I just bought an '96 Z/34 Monte Carlo. Was only running on three cylinders, fixed that problem (two wires crossed & bad plug wire #5, of couse in the rear). Now it's throwing a secondary air pump code. What should I do now. I sure would hate to have to tear this thing apart again, but if I have to so be it. Motor seems to run fine, now except for the code. Also would like to find out where the other end of the PCV valve attaches to. Thanks.

The pump is associated with the Idle air control valve circuit. sorry not sure where it is located.
The AIR injection pulls air from the rubber boot behind the MAF I think.
Might be located on the passenger side front on the inside of the fender, located after removing the inner splash shield.
The only thing AIR injection does is to reduce emissions, failure of the AIR injection system will not cause any engine performance issues, it only heats the cat up faster and more consistantly. You may not pass smog test.
You must have a Cali engine.
Well I guess what end of the PCV you are talking about is the end leaving the throttle body...The regulated end goes to the top center of crank case or under intake.Last edited by Juglenaut; 11-25-2006, 01:14 AM.I am back

ok well juglenaut your close on both counts but a little off. first the air pump is not attached to the TB or MAF or any of those vac lines. it draws air from a one way fitting near the electric pump itself. this pump is behind the pass headlight in the fender. yes i is all about emissions to heat up the cat. IIRC GM issued a recall on it. i just pulled the pump and erased the code with my programer.
as for the PCV (positve crank ventilation) the one end comes from a metal line that leads under the lower intake manifold to the engine. the other goes to the back side of the upper intake manifold.
damn boy! i used to live in Pittsburgh! in the south hills! pull up my WWW for more info on the car... i also have a 96 Z34 hope this helps.
