  • Porting Heads

    Hello Again,
I am gathering parts and gearing up for a timing belt / retiming project on my daily driver (1992 Z-34). As I stated in a previous post, I suspect that my engine's cam timing is slightly off (the engine was "rebuilt" by someone unfamiliar with the 3.4 TDC). I ran to an issue mentioned in another post: The cam carrier-to-head gaskets are not available outside OE without buying a "head set". The Fel-Pro head set is only a little more expensive than purchasing all of the other gaskets for the project individually and then buying the carrier to head gaskets from a dealer. Given this fact, I am entertaining the idea of buying the head set and then pulling the heads to do some work on the ports. This will also allow me to replace our "favorite o-ring". Now to my point: This is my daily driver. - Would anyone in the group have a spare set of early heads and intakes that I could "borrow", modify and then swap, allowing me to save down time? (My heads and intake are uncut and functioning properly.) If so, let me know what arrangements you would be comfortable with. - I am in the Warsaw, Indiana area. Thanks in advance.

I have a set of heads and manifolds you can borrow so long as your parts are good. Ill be at the machine shop tomorrow in the afternoon for sure. I need to bead blast the other head.

I have some ideas for the head porting as well but we can discuss that in person. If tomorrow isn't good, let me know. Ill be there either way.

              Ben,
I owe you an appology. I havent checked the board for a couple of days and I just noticed that you responded to me. I will definitely accept your offer. As far as my parts go, they are on my daily driver so there shouldn't be any problems with them. I do want to make sure that timing (the amount of time I have your parts) isn't going to be a problem with you. Since I am going a little more major than I originally intended, I am going to delay the project a little. What this means is that, more than likely, I will do the swap in January - February and will probably need the cores sometime in December. I plan to replace all of the valves and springs in the heads. I will make it a point to talk to you about the SI Valves and the performance chip that you are selling.

              Joel

I am not sure when I will need those parts back honestly. I have a complete engine here so if I need more parts I can pull them off it. Just let me know when you want them and ill take them to the shop.
