  • Can DOHC heads be bolted on a stock gen3 3100?

    Newbie alert....

I found a set of DOHC 3400 heads in decent shape. Can these be bolted on to a 1995 gen3 3100 engine, or does it have to be an engine that came as DOHC?

umm i guess you could physically bolt them on butsince they are dohc heads, there are no provisions for rocker arms etc...

on the flip side if u tried going dohc you'd have to completely fabricate a timing belt drive for it plus some other shit i am sure.

cheaper just to buy a 3.4 dohc engine altogether.

I figured it was a dumb question but thought it was worth asking.

There is a lot more than that. Oiling and coolant routing is different.

Shaun...the can be bolted on if you are looking for a display engine to keep in your living room...otherwise, NOTHING else will work as the block is a completely different casting for coolant, oil, etc... As an example, there are no lifter holes in the block, and the valley is open to the outside world.... You'd have a bit of a mess, and a MAJOR internal oil leak, just from this alone...

Unless you have the DOHC block, take a pass on the heads
