  • Best sounding muffler for a ga gt

Hey im wanting to get a different muffler for my ga and was wondering what muffler would sound the best .. I want something that gives it a deeper sound but yet makes it a little louder than stock ...
I here alot bout slp , borla, and magnaflow ... I was gonna get a flowmaster but i was told that at higher rpm they sound raspy is this true.... Id go with full catback but all the more gains you get in hp compared to goin with just a muffler and price wise its really not worth it to me so thats why i want just a different muffler ... Also where can i get some nice lookin tips to go with it??????????????????

first off, i would recomend a straight thru muffler like the performance mangnaflows. i currently have one magnaflow round tube muffler and full 2.5" pipe exiting a side pipe. and a high flow cat. all this cost me $300 parts and install! it also included a nice Z28 rectangular tip for the side pipe.

Flowmasters, i have heard are not great for performance cause of the baffles. the magnaflows are straight thru. since your in PA you might not want to be droping in a high flow cat, cause you most likely wont pass emissions on it. im assuming you have the 3100 or 3400 engine. I have the 3.4L DOHC engine so it does sound diff. but the system gave me very good results since i had so much intake work done on the car between the FWI, TB, and P&P intake manifolds. and at the time no exhaust work. the system really woke up the car.

Here are some sound clips and pics:

You probably have the dual exhaust, which for me just kills it. I too had the DOHC setup, but I ran a single flowmaster delta 40 with an 18" long resonator in line. Single output setup, 2.5" all the way back. High flow cat as well. I recommend the resonator no matter what you do. Performance wise, i bet you don't take a major hit between all the setups but the sound varies greatly.

Cat back??? why dont you chop the cat off?? in ur state do they do e tests?? kuss if not thats ur best power enhancer, like why waiste money doing "Full Catback" when you are making a fraction of an hp because of the small tubed stock rusty shit infront of the horbale flowing cat.. just never made sence to me.... BTW My buddy with his 3.4LDohc Lumina put on 2 resonaters at the back, then some swanky tips.. it sounded meen and the G-tech b4 and after was pretty amazing, I recall some 8-10 hp on topend? And there was no raspyness because thats what resonaters do. so just a thought..

Id like to see the dyno sheet of that. I think a ram air tech had 10 hp from their exhaust, though I don't think they showed a sheet.

I would like to see some real numbers on high flow cat vs no cat.

Small tubed rusty shit in front of the cat? I didn't think the grand am was that bad! My stock DOHC downpipe is 2.5" with nice bends. Id hope the grand am got something as nice being newer.

big black heavy beast of a thing produces a mean low rumble

cant wait to get that thing on, im currently cutting my cat out, gonna put a piece of pipe in its place
then im gonna put the slut in place of the stock muffler :evil grin:

grand am's cat doesnt actually do that bad. ive seen alot of guys run them with headers and they seem to flow pretty well.

Like I said it was With a G-tech and that does quartermile runs, altho it can show the peak hp for the run, its is not bang on acurate.. but B4 we do somthing to someones car there is a b4 and after run just for research perpouses, and it juss so happend that it made 10 more hp on that run.. it could have had some help from the no airfilter for the run but taking the airfilter out never really makes a whole lotta diffrence unless its on top end v8's or any engine that has a tendancy to move alota air ex. turbocharged, supercharged, or big valved high compression engines
