  • Connecting rod caps...

I'm in the process of assembling the short block for my Z-34 but I'm not sure about the rod caps. When I removed the rods from the engine, I stamped the cylinder number into the side of the cap and the rod so I would know which way they went back together. But after putting three rods in, I noticed that I had the caps flipped around. I was taught that when rods are installed, the notches that that locate the bearings in the rod and cap are supposed to be offset, Not both notches on the same side. All the rods had both notches on the same side. I think this engine has been rebuilt once before but I am not sure. The Chiltons manual is absolutely useless for this and my searches on this site have turned up nothing. SO which way do the caps go on the rod? notches on the same side, or notch ACROSS from notch? Thanks in advance guys.
If it\'s fun, it\'s probably illegal and if it\'s illegal I\'m probably doing it.
