  • Is 96' Block, Crank and Connecting Rods same as 91'-95'?

    Hey everyone,

I was just wondering if the bottom end in the 96' 3.4 DOHC is the same as the 91' -95' 3.4 DOHC?

I thought the block was different also. The 96-97 have a second knock sensor where the coil packs are on the 91-95 engines.

There is a coolant drain plug on the other motors so thats the same setup.

only block differences i know of are slight revisions gm made throughout the life of the lq1. if memory serves they were mainly focused on the oiling system/passages.

            so

So using the late model block/ crank, with the older piston design would be the best.

id say late model all the way. the newer pistons have more of a dome on them and they have an improved ring design i believe.

but other than the compression difference, the other differences are rather small.

if u are looking for best stock stuff. this would be my frankenstein:

              96-97 shortblock, 96-97 heads, either 97 or 94-95 cams if u cannot find a 97 set and a 94-95 intake.

                One second

I thought that the OLD piston design With the NEW style 96+ head gave me the most compression over any other configeration. Others here said My 1991 Cams are the best profile for performance. I haven't personally did research into this if this is true are not.
Also, was stated is that IN AN AUTOMATIC the OLD intake design is best.

                WHAT ARE THE FACTS??????

                EVERYONE, WHAT ARE THE BEST Combo's with the 3.4 DOHC;

                BEST CAMS???

                HEAD COMBO'S???

                PISTON DESIGN???

IS THE OLD INTAKE THE BEST FOR THE AUTOMATIC????
