Just to let you guys know the status of my saga with the DOHC.

Last we heard, napatiger started the engine and it froze up....

Well, I took my engine to a new machine shop. TEM in Napa CA. The guy Rich is really cool, and will let you hang out. He does alot of the local race engines, sprint, dirt, truck, whatever...

He took it apart, and was really impressed at the assembly that I did He said it was obvious that I took my time to do it right. Maybe too much time. Result of inspection:
Rust between upper and oil ring on piston, why? maybe condensation.
My pistons were sand blasted by the old machine shop, he does not like that. Something with the ring grooves.
    Bearings look OK
Piston walls need to be bored from rust, prob only a 10 but will go 20 - 30.
    Heads pressure checked OK.
Kinda chuckled at the vasoline in the oil pump....old school.
and liked the idea for the crank scraper but it was not close enough to do really anything.

    Next on the list....
He will put the engine together for me this time, block heads carriers
with a .30 over bore, improve crank scraper install.

I will get engine and bolt on all the other stuff.

Let me know what he does with the crank scraper. I guess ill have to get the taflon versions on the store since they actually touch the crank.

Sandblasted the pistons? I don't understand the reasoning for that at all. Sounds like you have a good shop checking it out now though Hopefully this time around it works!

      Sand blasted?!?!?!

That would easily ruin the grooves where the rings go. They require a perfect lathe turned surface for the rings to seal to, Sandblasting would destroy and roughen up that surface and disturb the seal, causing higher leakdown rates, and blowby.

thats why I am not with that yahoo anymore. Catch 22 is that this is a small town and my machinist knows all those guys, he said that doesn't work for them because of stuff like that, but he would prefer not to 'testify' against their work. kinda like the blue shield for cops.
