  • crank damper q/a

do the 91-93's have the same huge ass damper as the 94+?

also let's say you have your rotating assembly balanced, is there still a need for it?

since i am running a 91-93 harness now, could i cut the rubber stuff and remove the outer ring and just keep the hub since the 91-93 doesn't even use that sfi stuff?

lastly say i do not need it, what do you guys think if i got a crank hub off of say a lt1 motor and just had a custom pulley made to match a specified diameter?

LO's have a larger harmonic balancer then the HO's. I don't know about the 94+'s, but a 91 HO has one tiny balancer, its like 6" wide.

edit, Im sorry, I forgot I was on 60 degreev6.com, thaught I was at quad4forums.com,

    hahaa, disregard.

According to the local salvage yards interchange, 91- 94 LQ1 engines are all interchangeable. I would assume the balancers are the same as well. Chiltons manual doesn't list any differences, but that doesn't mean much.
From what I've been taught, the balancer absorbs vibrations in the crankshaft. These vibrations occur whether the rotating assembly is balanced or not. Balancing an engines rotating assembly helps reduce vibration but does not stop it completely. Getting rid of the blalncer completely is probably not a good idea for a street engine.

      Hope this helps.
If it\'s fun, it\'s probably illegal and if it\'s illegal I\'m probably doing it.
